Immerse yourself in Black history with an audio narration by Djimon Hounsou. Our brand new app will launch the week before the race and offer an interactive experience, transforming your mobile phone into an outdoor museum guide.

This mobile guide allows you to…

  • receive educational audio messages during your run. Audio comments are triggered automatically by your GPS location, so you don’t have to lift a finger. If you are listening to music in another app, the volume of your music will automatically lower whenever Djimon’s voice comes on.
  • Interact with all of engaging audio-visual content including short videos, audio clips, images, and text.

As soon as the app launches on the Apple App Store and Google Play, we’ll post the download links here.

This app experience is sponsored by our friends from the 400 Years of African American History Commission.

The commission develops and facilitates activities throughout the United States, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Africans in the English colonies at Point Comfort, Virginia in 1619.

The educational content is sponsored by the 400 Years of African American History Commission in partnership with Virginia Humanities. For more than forty-five years Virginia Humanities worked to help Virginians better understand each other by exploring our history, culture, and traditions.

All content was developed by the Djimon Hounsou Foundation in partnership with the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia.
